XCOM Shooter Now Third-Person, Squad-Based

Do you remember when 2K Games had two different XCOM games in development? One is the retro-tastic XCOM: Enemy Unknown by Firaxis, but details on the first-person shooter reboot have been thin on the ground. Well, it seems that this is because the game has had a complete rethink, and is now a third-person team-based affair.

A survey, published by Kotaku, indicates that the project has been rebuilt for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the potential to be a downloadable title as opposed to its initially planned AAA release. The game still seems to be in development at 2K Marin, but is now apparently being pitched as a squad-based action title, similar to that of SOCOM.

Some screenshots were reportedly included with the survey, one of which you can see here. For its part, 2K has responded to the Kotaku report with, "We have not made any new announcements regarding the XCOM title currently in development at 2K Marin, and it is our policy not to comment on rumors or speculation."
