Japanese Chart: Hatsune Miku Rescues PlayStation Vita

Success! Would you believe it? The PlayStation Vita has topped the hardware chart in Japan! And it's all thanks to the assistance of one green-haired virtual diva - Hatsune Miku. SEGA's Project Diva f stormed the software Top 10, selling nearly 160,000 units and tipping Vita sales to over 50,000.

Although it seems that the Hatsune Miku craze might just be wearing off. To compare first-week sales with its predecessors, Hatsune Miku Project Diva 2nd sold 241,000 and Project Diva Extend sold 185,000 on PSP. Media Create suspects that the relatively low figure for f may be down to the smaller install base of the Vita.

It wasn't just a good week for Sony, either. Nintendo's 3DS stood strong against the Vita surge, with nearly 45,000 units sold for the XL model. The Top 5 in the software chart is also dominated by 3DS titles by Atlus, Marvelous and Nintendo, while Pokemon Black and White 2 stand firm at #8.
