Trials Studio: Possible to Develop on XBLA & PC Simultaneously
Ubisoft's help will allow Finnish studio to focus on PC.
PC gamers might just be catching up with their XBLA friends with Trials Evolution Gold Edition, but Red Lynx has told SPOnG that it doesn't intend to leave computer users in the dark with future releases.
When asked today if the Finnish studio will be able to develop on PC and XBLA simultaneously, creative director and co-founder Antti Ilvessuo said, "I would say now, that it’s more possible to do that, yes. We are a small studio, and [developing for both platforms] on our own before Ubisoft was not possible.
"Now, for the XBLA version Ubisoft Shanghai is working with us. So now it is possible for us to do this sort of thing."
Ilvessuo added that Trials Evolution Gold Edition - a 2013 release which will include content from Trials HD and Trials Evolution - was created due to complaints from PC players. "PC players have been complaining for a while, saying 'you've forgotten us because you started on PC'," the developer said. "That's why we say, with Gold Edition, that Trials is coming home."
Asked if a lot of people complained, Ilvessuo remarked, "Well, we had some comments from people in forums, but... how do you define 'a lot of people'? We didn't have people banging on our doors or anything like that! But we did hear a significant amount of feedback. Around 300,000 to 400,000 players enjoyed the originals some five years ago. So we know there are a lot of players who would like to play this."
