gamescom 2012: Tekken Tag Tournament 2’s New Features
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will come with a number of gameplay enhancements inspired by feedback from Tekken 6, series producer Katsuhiro Harada confirmed - but there will also be a number of new features that will aim to lower the difficulty barrier for fighting newbies.

The big addition to the game comes in the form of Fight Lab, a mode that gives players a selection of minigame-based challenges to overcome in order to earn virtual currency. Such virtual currency can be spent on unlocking specific moves that can be assigned to any custom character. The Fight Lab stages will include ways to help newcomers learn the ropes of the fighting game, Harada said.

Customisation options have been vastly improved as well, with combination moves and specials all available to unlock using the Fight Lab mode. There are some moves, Harada noted, that can only be unlocked by completing certain stages as well. He said that this will also cater to the hardcore fan, because they will be able to customise their personal character right down to the button.

Harada also revealed a new Tekken Tunes feature, which allows players to change the background music to any stage in the game. You’ll be able to use music from other stages in Tekken Tag Tournament 2, as well as music that has been imported onto your Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. Additional music packs are planned as future DLC.

You can even record a voice message and use that as the BGM for a specific stage, Harada added, joking that a parent could record a message to their children saying, “Why are you still playing this game? Go to bed!” and set it to play during the final stage of the Arcade mode.

Earlier this week Namco Bandai announced the upcoming launch of the Tekken World Federation website - a premium pay-for service in a similar vein to Activision’s Call of Duty Elite - in a bid to add community features and further lower the barrier for new players.
