Sony has fired a huge shot across the bow of Nintendo's upcoming Wii U console tonight, by unveiling the PS3-Vita Cross Controller. Being introduced into LittleBigPlanet 2, Cross Controller allows Vita owners to control the PS3 game whilst taking advantage of touch-screen based features.
A "Rescue the Princess" level was demonstrated which highlighted the benefits of Vita use. The Vita can be used as a scanner for hidden mines, as a wheel to raise a platform, and as a whole second screen for Sackboy to traverse alternative paths.
Wait, a "Rescue the Princess" level? Yeah, basically this has been a two-fingered salute to Nintendo. And from what we've seen during the gameplay demonstration, it seems to work pretty well. We'll see if Sony can persuade consumers to purchase two different devices to accomplish what Nintendo is trying to do with one, however.
