The next evolution of Sony's support for smartphones and tablets was announced today at the corporation's Gamescom conference tonight, as SCEE CEO Jim Ryan formally unveils PlayStation Mobile.

The initiative will allow developers to seamlessly develop for Android-powered phones, tablets and PlayStation Vita all at the same time. While it will beef up Sony's mobile gaming offering, it will also allow the Vita to present bitesize app-games that can put it on a par with the iPhone.

The whole experience is tied with your PlayStation ID, and is supported by the PlayStation Store. Ryan confirmed that PlayStation Network features will be made available in the future.

SCEE also announced two more companies that have signed up for the PlayStation Mobile initative - Asus and Wikipad.
