Midway has confirmed that it will be bringing SpyHunter, the remake of the classic 1983 arcade that achieved a respectable level of success on the PlayStation 2 last year.
"SpyHunter was hugely popular on the PlayStation 2 and we expect it will be just as big of a hit on the Xbox and Nintendo GameCube," said Helene Sheeler, Vice President of Marketing, Midway. "Using all of the original game elements, including villains, weapons vans and theme music, combined with the power of these great new consoles, SpyHunter creates an electrifying gaming experience."
Annoyingly, Midway will not disclose whether these new versions will come equipped with any new features, in particular we were hoping for online play in the Xbox version. At E3 last May, developers were talking about the possibility of putting the game online, with one player as the spy, and the other as the spy hunter. Cooperative play was also mentioned as a possibility.
The GameCube and Xbox versions are due out in the Spring. We’ll keep you posted when there are any updates.
