Nintendo's 3DS XL has gone down a treat in Japan. The House of Mario has sold an estimated 200,000 units of the device since it launched on July 28.Japanese game magazine
Famitsu puts the exact sales figure at 193,000, giving the platform a good shot in the arm in terms of install base. Nintendo UK apparently has no plans to announce sales figures for the revamped console, according to
VG247.
New Super Mario Bros 2 launched with the 3DS XL, and Famitsu added that the game sold extraordinarily well at 430,000 units. It was the first Nintendo game to be offered in both retail stores and digitally via the 3DS e-Shop service.
There are currently no details on how many copies of
New Super Mario Bros 2 were sold online compared to boxed copy, but
Andriasang reported that Nintendo experienced some server trouble on the game's launch day. Which may suggest that digital sales were better than anticipated.
