Ubisoft has acknowledged the security hole that was discovered in its Uplay DRM system earlier today. The company has patched the flaw, according to forum watchers, but has also issued a statement with instructions on how affected users can fix the problem themselves.Of course, it's not suggesting that you remove Uplay, although some PC users might disagree with that sentiment. But it is confident that the flaw - which allowed malicious websites to gain control of your PC without your knowledge - has been completely patched up with a simple update of the software.
"We have made a forced patch to correct the flaw in the browser plug-in for the Uplay PC application that was brought to our attention earlier today. We recommend that all Uplay users update their Uplay PC application without a Web browser open," reads the statement.
"This will allow the plug-in to update correctly. An updated version of the Uplay PC installer with the patch also is available from
Uplay.com. Ubisoft takes security issues very seriously, and we will continue to monitor all reports of vulnerabilities within our software and take swift action to resolve such issues."
Luckily, there doesn't seem to be any cases of exploited computers from this security hiccup. Good on Ubisoft for responding to the issue so quickly.
