In a refreshingly frank admission, Konami's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producer, Dave Cox, has said that the lacklustre Reverie and Resurrection DLC was "rushed" and a "mistake".Speaking to
Gameranx, Cox said, "The problem was that the game's success caught everyone by surprise. It caught senior management by surprise and they wanted us to do DLC. We never planned to do DLC, so we ended up doing DLC after the fact and in hindsight that was a mistake. It was rushed. We had to rush it to market."
Cox said that his studio was not forced to do the DLC, but that there was pressure to do it nonetheless. He said that while he felt the content "enriched the story that we wanted to tell", but that if they were to do it again it would have to be planned from the start.
Cox wouldn't be drawn on whether the game's sequel will have DLC.
If you're looking for clues as to what any DLC that
might come our way would like, Cox also said that he feels that DLC should offer side stories that enrich the main game, not linear continuations of it. "Instead of giving players a part of the story and giving them the other part as DLC, I think the DLC has to expand the universe of an already whole product," he said.
