As we reported some months ago, a game based on the seminal anime movie Akira for PlayStation 2 is indeed underway. In news that will appall the movie’s huge and loyal fanbase, it turns out that the game will be a pinball simulator based on the movie.
Called Akira Psycho Ball, the game will be developed and published worldwide by Bandai. It will contain four tables, each multi-layered and will feature clips from the movie when special events, such as multiball occur. The tables will be based on scenes from Akira: The streets of Neo Tokyo, the Psychic Nursery, the Lab in which Tetsuo was imprisoned, and the Olympic Stadium.
This is unlikely to be the last game to be based on the film, so keep an open mind as to future possibilities.
