Let's interrupt the E3 news fest for a moment and look at the fact that THQ has not only closed its San Diego office making all staff there redundant, it has also sold the rights to its highly successful UFC game licence to EA.On the San Diego closure and lay-offs, THQ vice president of communication Angela Emery told
GamesBeat:
“THQ confirms that today’s announcement regarding the UFC license transition will affect the company’s San Diego studio.
THQ is working closely with those relevant staff to either find possible employment within the company, or potentially with EA."
On selling the rights to a licence that could keep it afloat, it states in a terse release that puts a shine on events:
"THQ Inc. and Zuffa, LLC, today announced that they have reached an agreement resulting in Zuffa licensing to Electronic Arts Inc the right to publish videogames based on the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) brand, effective today. The agreement results in an undisclosed cash payment to THQ. Additionally, THQ will continue to publish its existing console and mobile titles through March 31, 2013."
