The three companies are said to be co-developing new semiconductors that will be able to process information several hundred times faster that current devices. No application was given for the semiconductors at this point.
Sony and IBM are said to be developing an operating system that will speed up integrated broadband connectivity. It should enable users to exchange massive amounts of data at previously unattainable speeds.
Whether these projects, estimated to cost a combined $400 million, will be used in the PlayStation 3 remains to be seen.
