Unlike Activision, Square in the USA won't let Sleeping Dogs lie.

Mike Fischer is the president and chief executive of the U.S. division of Square Enix and he's one of those guys who loves his job and, we're guessing, has a marketing background. He's only gone and had a pop at Activision over Sleeping Dogs (formerly True Crimes Hong Kong).

Sleeping Dogs (previewed here) was originally held by Activision before the company dropped it only for it to be reborn by Square under a new name in 2011. Mike can't understand it.

"The game was, in a sense, discovered. I’m making air quotes: ‘discovered’ by the folks in Wimbledon. The minute they showed it to us, we really felt like we had found a diamond in the rough. Obviously the game was originally True Crime: Hong Kong from Activision.

"I can’t speak to why they let that go. I’m not going to speculate on their behalf. All I know is, they’ve gotta be crazy. Because this game is just fantastic. The scale and scope of the game really encompasses all of everything you’d want to do in Hong Kong. The acting, the story, the characters are very deep."

Oh, and we weren't guessing about Mike's background... here's a bit of background:

Consumer & On-Line Marketing Officer, UK at Microsoft
General Manager of Marketing, at Microsoft
Vice President, Entertainment Marketing at Sega of America
