It appears that Activision's apparent plans to launch a new UK studio are bigger than first imagined, with fresh reports revealing that two ex-Rockstar UK bosses are working with Martyn Brown to help build the mobile studio.
Mark Washbrook and Mark Lloyd are said to be involved with establishing a team of 40 staff, according to GamesIndustry. Washbrook helped launch Rockstar's London studio, responsible for the Midnight Club portable games as well as the online components for Max Payne 3. Lloyd was studio head of Rockstar Leeds for 12 years, but left in March 2011 to establish a consultancy service.
The new studio will be based in Leeds, which will put it in competition with Rockstar's local studio and a number of other North-East based outfits. Activision responded to GI's report by stating that "It is very early days, but we are looking to recruit great talent from across the UK. We have retained a number of consulting firms to help us achieve this."
