Sega’s WOW Entertainment development development team has announced that it has postponed the release of Sega GT 2002, the hotly anticipated Xbox racer.
The Magic Box has reported that the game, originally slated for a worldwide March 2002 release, has been postponed, with no reason given. The follow up to the Dreamcast game Sega GT was originally made playable to the public at the Tokyo Game Show earlier this year and we were lucky enough to play it at the XO1 event in Cannes.
At that time, the Sega representatives were unwilling to disclose how complete the game was, and more importantly, where it sat in the WOW team’s list of priorities.
The early version was playable but the car models were lumpy with many of the featured manufacturers blacked out. The AI was also in early stages with computer-controlled cars needing testing for either alcohol consumption or the use of performance enhancing drugs.
Rumour has it that Sony has snared some of the leading Japanese car companies to exclusivity deals for future use in the Gran Turismo series but this could not be confirmed at time of press.
More as we get it.
