As the Dreamcast remains in the grips of its somewhat stuttering death throes, Sega Europe has announced that the development of its latest browser, Dreamkey 3.0, has been completed.
This will enable Dreamcast users to choose any ISP (Internet Service Provider) they like, as SegaNet ceases to function in this role. Dreamkey will also feature enhanced data-transfer protocols for online Dreamcast gaming, something that Sega Europe, against the wishes of Sega Japan and to its massive credit, will continue to support.
segaeurope.com will be merged with Dreamarena in March 2002 and will host online gaming using the Dreamkey 3.0 for Dreamcast users in the UK, France, Germany Italy, Ireland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland and Finland.
Excitingly, Sega Europe also announced that this new online gaming portal will feature support, not only for Dreamcast, but for PC and “other online platforms” proving Sega’s commitment to online multi-platform gaming.
The first title to be supported is likely to be Phantasy Star Version 2 for Dreamcast, GameCube and PC.
