Sony slams PSone recall claims
Several reports surfaced over the weekend stating that Sony Computer Entertainment has withdrawn the PSone from general sale in Europe and recalled all units still in the distribution chain. The reports, initially run in Swedish daily Sydsvenska Dagbladet, said that due to unacceptably high levels of cadmium in some components, the company had halted the movement of all stock.

Well apparently, all this is a load of nonsense. In a statement issued to the European press, SCEE said, “A factually incorrect story in the Swedish daily newspaper Sydsvenska Dagbladet, subsequently picked up by various newswire services, reported that Sony Computer Entertainment was planning to withdraw PSone from the Swedish market. This is untrue. There are no health risks related to use of the PSone and Sony Computer Entertainment has no plans to withdraw PSone from the Swedish, or any other market."

This follows Dutch customs holding a shipment of machines due to Cadmium levels being unacceptably high, an opinion that Sony disagrees with strongly, following its own testing.
