Report: LulzSec Leader Sells Out His Own Organisation to FBI

Well this is precious. Apparently the leader of Anonymous hacking group LulzSec - which has targeted Sony and Bethesda in the past - has been secretly working as an agent for the FBI in recent months, and has been helping the US Government in orchestrating the arrests of some key players in the organisation.

Thanks to information reportedly passed on to the FBI by alleged ringleader Hector Xavier Monsegur, three people have been arrested and two more have been charged with conspiracy in an operation said to be "devastating to the organisation." Of those taken down, two men were from Great Britain, two were from Ireland and one from Chicago. An FBI official said, "We're chopping off the head of LulzSec."

According to Fox News, Monsegur "allegedly commanded a loosely organized, international team of perhaps thousands of hackers from his nerve center in a public housing project on New York’s Lower East Side. After the FBI unmasked Monsegur last June, he became a cooperating witness." He reportedly pleaded guilty in August to hacking-related charges.

Of course, nobody's providing any comment to the press about this. Least of all Monsegur's lawyers. On Twitter, 'Sabu' was last active some 14 hours ago, with a tweet just yesterday reading, "The federal government is run by a bunch of f***ing cowards. Don't give in to these people. Fight back. Stay strong."

If Monsegur's role in the arrests are true, then there will no doubt be a hell of a load of people after his head.
