Paramount Pictures, which holds the rights to Star Trek, has shaken hands with Namco Bandai over a new PC and console game based on the never-fail franchise. Namco is to co-publish and distribute the title that saw a good showing at E3 last year.Namco joins the likes of Interplay, Bethesda, R'n'R Software, Activision, and of course, Atari which is now owned by Namco Bandai in trying its hand at the deep space favourite (
you can see details of all the Star Trek games ever created, here.)
Despite a large slice of marketing release, not a vast amount is known about the new title aside from:
"The action-packed combat game is set to launch the first quarter of 2013 prior to the May 17th theatrical release of the next Star Trek installment from director and producer J.J. Abrams. The game, through a license with CBS Consumer Products, is based on a stand-alone storyline that continues the adventure of iconic characters Kirk and Spock as they work together to stop a legendary enemy race bent on conquering the galaxy. "
Thankfully we do know from E3 that the game will be developed by Digital Extremes (
Bioshock 2,
Unreal Tournament,
Dark Sector,
The Darkness II).
