Telewest has announced that it will begin full-scale testing of its upcoming high-speed networking solution for the PlayStation 2 as of today. Which is brilliant news.
In yet another vote of confidence for the viability of broadband console connectivity, Nainan Shah, Director of Business Development, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said, "The service offers a plug-and-play experience for multiplayer gaming, downloading of game demos and other content, as well as news and reviews presented in way that PlayStation 2 consumers have not experienced before."
The network, following initial testing, will be given a window of limited public trials beginning early next year. Upon launch, Telewest hopes to bring a broadband-dedicated console gaming network to the UK, surely the stuff gaming dreams are made of.
"The Telewest Broadband PlayStation 2 network will, for the first time, establish protocols for networked games, making the development of these titles much more straightforward,” said Tom Cotter, Head of Games at Telewest. “Telewest Broadband is investing heavily in the PlayStation 2 service; believe me, this will be multi-player gaming and broadband access integrated like never before."
We will have more on this, plus something very exciting soon. We cannot divulge exactly what at this time, but stay tuned!
