It's official - Team ICO boss Fumito Ueda has left Sony. The company confirmed that the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus creator will complete work on his latest epic, The Last Guardian, on a freelance basis.
Speculation had been rife about Ueda's future at Sony for weeks, which only compounded when fellow Team ICO exec Yoshifusa Hayama jumped ship to join London-based Bossa Studios.
The absence of two key members of Team ICO signals a massive blow to Sony's Japanese talent pool. We'd hasten a guess that the studio probably won't last much longer following the eventual launch of The Last Guardian, but you never know what might happen.
The Last Guardian was expected to be released this holiday season, but has been pushed back to an indefinite date next year.
