Ubisoft Loosens Strict DRM on PC Titles
Assassin's Creed: Revelations will not include Ubisoft's usual 'always-on' Digital Rights Management system.

The alternative system Ubisoft is using for Assassin's Creed: Revelations is that you will need to be online the first time you play the game to activate your copy. Once this has been done, you can play the game offline as you would any other title. Could this be a sign that Ubisoft is listening to their paying consumers? We will see whether Ubisoft keep this new system or revert back to the stricter version over the course of the next few releases.

The Digital Rights Management system, included by Ubisoft in some of their recent releases, forces you to have your system connected to the internet every time you play, meaning you could never play your games 'offline'. The addition of the DRM system was designed to prevent piracy, a strategy Ubisoft claimed a success earlier this year. While this may have been the case, it was a source of constant irritation to many gamers who simply wanted to access their legitimate games without using the internet.
