Namco of Japan has revealed that it is well underway with the PlayStation 2 port of its arcade fighter, Tekken 4. The company has stated that the game should hit Japanese stores in March 2002.

Tekken 4 has been given a somewhat lukewarm reception in the arcades, with stiff competition from Virtua Fighter 4. Sega’s machine has been taken to with greater enthusiasm by 3D fighting fans. Additional title contenders to emerge in recent months include the stunning Capcom Vs SNK 2 and SNK’s King Of Fighters 2001.

Running on Namco’s System 264 arcade system, the code should be relatively easy to port. The new arcade standard employed by Namco was designed to enable easy PlayStation 2 conversions of its coin-op games.
