I Am Alive is not dead. After months of silence on the project, Ubisoft has today announced that the game will be released this Winter! And get this - it's going to be distributed digitally, on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.
The action adventure was first announced way back in 2008, and has since changed developers from Darkworks to Ubisoft Shanghai. CEO Yves Guillemot said at the start of 2010 that the game was being "totally re-engineered," and the publisher set a provisional release window, between April 2010 and March 2011. It missed it, and nobody's heard a peep since.
Until today. Ubisoft released a trailer, which you can see below, as well as the first screenshot of the game. It looks absolutely stunning, especially considering it's being digitally distributed. Your character is an everyday Joe Schmoe, struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world - keeping an eye on your stamina and making good use of little resources is key to your success.
As you can see in the trailer, being one of the last men alive is a bit of an issue when everyone else sees you as an outcast. You'll have to use psychological warfare to overcome some of these foes - some may challenge you until you show them your pistol, while others will be far more dangerous.
Marketing quote time! We'll let it slide, because we've not heard anything about this game in so long. It's just nice to hear someone's voice. Director of Marketing, Adam Novickas, had the proud honour of being quoted in a press release. "We know people have been waiting for this game to arrive, and we believe it’s going to be worth the wait.
"I Am Alive presents a unique take on the postapocalyptic, survival genre by creating more complex and emotional situations for the player. Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network are the perfect platforms to leverage the mature and challenging experiences of the game."
They sure are, Adam. They sure are. Watch the video below already, and let us know what you think in the comments box below.
