In what can only be described as a really... 'opportunistic' thing to do, GAME has whacked the price of Dead Island up to a quite ridiculous £47.99. With stock of the UK's current number one game running low, GAME has done what pretty much any market-fearing capitalist would do and attempted to maximise the profits on an admittedly popular title.Well, maybe not what
any market-fearing capitalist would do. What no-one told GAME is that none of the other retailers on the high street have raised their prices, leaving the company now selling
Dead Island at (in some cases)
over £15 more than other shops.
More stock has been promised for UK stores and is due to arrive soon. With the 360 version apparently sold out nationwide and copies on PS3 and PC running low, it'll be interesting to see how many people cave over the weekend and pick it up from GAME.
Will the tactic backfire? Will the game buying public wait for stocks to arrive and the price to drop? Maybe they'll even wait for online stores to get their hands on copies. We'll see soon enough.
