Sega recently held an event in Tokyo called Sega Private, at which it unveiled several previously unannounced high-profile arcade titles, the first of which was the sequel to awesome truck racing game, 18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker.

The new game from Sega’s AM-2 team, running on the Naomi 2 system, will be called The King of Route 66 and will feature more of the same crazy haulage capers that saw the first game make a strong appearance in the world’s arcades. The new game will feature microphone activated voice commands and follow the famous American highway in the title.

Also shown at the event was Sega’s Virtua Athlete, running on Naomi 2 hardware. The game is set to take on Konami’s well-established line of quick-fix sports titles, and will be developed by the same team that created Sega Sports Jam.

The most impressive game to be shown by Sega, at least in terms of scale and innovation, is called World Club Championship Football Series A 2001-2002. Details are thin on the ground at present, but as you can tell from the cabinet picture, this game is not like anything we have seen before.

Looking like some kind of mutated Blackpool bingo machine, World Club Championship Football seats eight players who all play games of football strategy. Using integrated circuit (IC) cards, players buy a deck of eleven cards and strategically arrange them, to correspond with real-time game events. Though play specifics are pretty thin on the ground at the moment, Sega has stated that it intends to revolutionise the way people play public gaming.
