Shenmue 2 for Dreamcast in the US

There are reports emerging that several major US retail chains will be importing and supplying European copies of the Dreamcast version of Shenmue 2.

Selling for $60, it is suggested that the major players in the US game retail industry will stock an imported title for the first time.

We received our copy of Shenmue 2 from Sega Europe this week. Rarely does a game have such presence, even when presented in a clear jewel case with no instructions. Just the lettering spelling out its title on the four Dreamcast GD-ROMs is enough to let you know that many people spent a lot of time making what will no doubt prove to be one of the most important games of all time.

Although we cannot reveal which stores will be supplying European copies of Shenmue 2, we can confirm that the game looks set to become the most exported European title of all time. This honour is currently held by Street Fighter Alpha, the excellent Game Boy Color version converted by Crawfish. The game wasn’t available in Japan or America for almost a year after the European release, sparking massive exports.

It’s not often that PAL gamers get the better deal in the global videogame industry. Silent Hill 2 in Europe will be the best version, with all the bugs fixed and coming beautifully packaged with a bonus disc. Perhaps things will start to change in our favour quite soon.

By the way, Shenmue 2 should be easy for American gamers to get to grips with as it comes with a 50 Hz/60 Hz PAL/NTSC switch.
