Wii Family Edition Could Sell for £79.99
Look! It's the new Wii Family Edition. What's different? Well, not a lot really. It's had some button re-orientation, and it doesn't play Gamecube games. Nintendo doesn't see fit to drop the trade price of the machine as a result, but a report suggests that retail may slash the console's price to £79.99.

According to MCV, Nintendo's renewed hardware pricing and Mario Kart bundle boosted sales of the machine back in May. As the Christmas season draws near, it's obvious that the company will want to repeat that success with this new pack, which includes Wii Sports and Wii Party as well as a Wii MotionPlus controller and Nunchuk.

Retailers are saying that they will expect the Wii Family Edition to go for a sub-£80 price point over the holidays, "even if it's a temporary promotion," reports the trade magazine.

But any price drop would be a hit taken by retailers, as a Nintendo spokesperson said that "the trade price will be similar to previous Wii bundles. At this stage in the console’s lifecycle we want to offer potential customers good value bundles that include ‘must have’ games that family and friends can play together."

Nintendo! Spare parts much? don't worry you seem to of sold out of GameCube ports so its not too bad right...?

I know the Wii sells very well but instead of it being "family edition" it should be called "F**k the last Gen Edition"

With the Wii Arcade (or whatever it's called) how much of an issue is the lack of Gamecube support? Not much I'm guessing.

It makes sense, anyone wanting GC compatibility will already own a Wii, as for Smash Bros Controller use, the classic controller can help..

@PaulRayment

Not at all! unless you have a load of GameCube games, controllers, a GameCube which I sold ages back and currently a broken Wii like myself!

Still I get your point as your talking about the majority.

@Ryan550 well if thats the case you culd pick up a second had wii with GC compatibility for £50 or even a GC for £15.
if the price of this wii was right £60 max i would get 1 but as the wii u is just around the corner think i will wait for that

@headcasephil

I understand that but I am a little untrustworthy of anything pre-owned and my original comment was actually a joke as I am aware its difficult to get GameCube games these days especially specific ones that you wish to buy and that the majority that owns Gamecube games will either play them on the original Wii or not wish to play them at all.
However my second comment was not a joke as I do have an old white version that no longer works with no motion plus but like you, I am waiting for the Wii U (please redesign the tablet Nintendo...)

I have a broken wii, the disk drive doesn't work so we currently use it to stream I player to the bedroom. in a way if they stuck on a DVD player it would me a nice little media center for spare rooms around the country.
I may pick this up to replace my wii, but i actually would miss the Game cube connectivity as i still fire up rouge squadron and only re bought eternal darkness again a few months ago... not forgetting my half played copy of Killer 7!

I loved the GameCube.. had so many amazing games.. and you just named one! Killer 7, which may I ask here.. Did that game do horrible in sales? I honestly cannot remember but I assume it did considering there was no sequel. It is a game I would love to play again or even better.. get revived as a franchise.

Blood spraying out of your enemies neck in Cel shading = Win.

(Just realised how that last comment could be taken as "sick" but its staying put.)

Anyway yes I once considered getting a new Wii awhile back but like headcasephil said, the Wii U is near (well next year) and it is enough for me to hold back on spending £80 for the time being as I am planning on getting Deus-Ex Human Revolution (which despite the fact I wanted it for ages.. Haven't actually bought it yet)
