The path is now clear for Electronic Arts to complete it purchase of Plants vs Zombies developer Popcap and go mad successful in the mobile gaming arena.According to Reuters, "Videogame maker Electronic Arts has won U.S. antitrust approval to buy PopCap Games, the Federal Trade Commission said on Thursday.
While the initial figure for the deal was quoted at $750m, the final agreement including bonus payments is said to be worth $1.3 billion. The deal is expected to close at the end of August.
No wonder then that EA Play boss Jeff Karp told MCV, "But the real challenge for all game handhelds is how they stack up against mobile and tablets.
“We are a platform agnostic business and we want them all to succeed, but it will be challenge for handhelds. Just look at how smartphones and tablets continue to grow and emerge.”
