The new director of the Uncharted movie, Neil Burger (Limitless, The Lucky Ones), has said that he's wiping the slate clean and won't be using any of the materiel put together by previous director David O. Russell. Burger has also said that he likes the look of Nathan Fillion...Asked by
Crave Online if he'd be using any of Russell's work, Burger said, "I haven’t seen his screenplay on it. Mainly we’re beginning from scratch and going back to the videogame. Because there’s a lot of cool stuff, actually, from the videogame, if you know it…"
Burger praised the game's cinematic qualities and its characters.
Reflecting on the tone of the games, Burger said they don't have the nostalgia of the
Indiana Jones films. "It’s very “now” and contemporary and it has this sort of rough and very intense feel that a movie like The Bourne Identity has", he said.
And, on Nathan Fillion, who we're sure won't mind being referred to as 'the elephant in the room', Burger said, "...I think he’s a good actor. I think there’s a lot of really good actors who don’t even look like [Nathan Drake] who could play it!"
Previously, Russell had Mark Wahlberg lined up for the role of Drake. Russell, however,
left the film over 'creative differences'.
