UK based Warthog PLC has announced that it will be penning a deal with NewKidCo International to develop and publish a new game based on ET The Extra Terrestrial for PlayStation 2.
This follows Warthog’s contract with NewKidCo to enter into a joint venture to mark the 20th anniversary re-release of Spielberg’s classic sci-fi flick, after NewKidCo won the rights to this and various other Universal Studios properties earlier this year.
The game will be called ET: Return to the Green Planet and will be based on the Storybook of the Green Planet, which describes ET’s adventures after departing Earth at the conclusion of the film.
"We are delighted to have been chosen to develop NewKidCo's 'showpiece' E.T. PlayStation 2 product,” said Ashley Hall, CEO of Warthog. “The popularity of E.T. is as strong as ever and the long awaited re-release of the film is highly anticipated."
ET for PlayStation 2 will be a 3D adventure game and will be out at some point next year. No other platform for the game has been mentioned.
Hopefully this digital outing for ET will end in somewhat happier circumstances than his Atari 2600 adventure did. Mattel made so many copies of the game that they had to be entombed in concrete and buried in the desert as a tax write off.
