Capcom announced its development plans and sales expectations for the year ahead, and it seems that the Japanese publisher has put a lot of stock into the PlayStation 3's success. The house of
Street Fighter expects to release 55 new titles across six platforms, with a sales target of 18 million units between them. In particular, the PS3 will be seeing 16 releases - an increase on last year's 11 - with an expectation of 8,000 unit sales over last year's 6,200. That makes Sony's console Capcom's darling for the year.
Microsoft's Xbox 360 will see 14 games published by Capcom, and an expectation of 4,700 units sold. The PSP will see an equal number of titles released (11), but sales units have plummeted from 6,200 to 2,200 - presumably on the basis that none of those 11 titles will be a
Monster Hunter game.
The Wii gets hit hard though, as the publisher reveals plans to launch only two games for the system over the next year, with a sales expectation of a mere 200 units. Compare that with 1,400 units over five titles, and you'll see that there's not a lot of hope for Nintendo's white box there. The incoming announcement of Project Cafe is an obvious factor for the decision as well.
The DS and 3DS will see a slight drop in released titles, but an increase in projected sales figures. Take a look at the bite-size list below to wrap your head around these better.
(Last year's titles and sales in brackets) PS3: 16 titles, 8 million units (11 / 6.2 million)
X360: 14 titles, 4.7 million units (11 / 4.2 million)
DS/3DS: 9 titles, 2.4 million units (11 / 1.7 million)
PSP: 11 titles, 2.2 million units (11 / 6.2 million)
PC/Other: 3 titles, 500,000 units (3 / 500,000)
Wii: 2 titles, 200,000 units (5 / 1.4 million)
