Here's some perspective on the Modern Warfare 3 leaks. It comes from Activision Publishing's head man, Eric Hirshberg and it explains how to turn lemons into lemonade.Says Mr H', "if members of the government and the military aren't safe from this stuff, it's a part of our world now."
That's what we call 'perspective'. So, is Activision going to track down the leakers, bang them up in jail, interrogate them and retain them with little legal representation?
Nah.
Eric is more sanguine, "...while it's definitely not cool to steal other people's intellectual property, and while it's definitely not cool to leak stuff that's not yours, there are ways that you can respond that actually turn the lemons into lemonade. And that's what we tried to do on Friday."
He then proceeds down an interesting sociological track, re-defining you the consumer:
"Now, people aren't consumers of brands any more; they're fans of brands," apparently those positions are mutually exclusive. Either that or 'being a fan' makes it easier to extract the nasty but essential 'cash money'?
