There's a mystery unfolding the likes of which may even challenge Cole Phelps this week, as retailer HMV is reportedly offering a trade-in price of just £4.99 for Rockstar's L.A. Noire - but the company denies any such deal exists.MCV ran a story this morning detailing the promotion, which allowed gamers to part-exchange copies of Splash Damage's multiplayer-focused shooter
Brink for almost the entire price of
L.A. Noire.
HMV later contacted the trade magazine to state that "no such deal exists," yet readers soon submitted evidence of the store advertising the offer. Most curious.
It wouldn't be the first time the chain store has tried to massively undercut the price of brand new games using trade-ins, with
Gran Turismo 5 and
Call of Duty: Black Ops all seeing similar promotions at launch last year.
We're not quite sure what the hubbub is, but someone sounds like they're covering their tracks. Perhaps it doesn't want Rockstar to send Nico Bellic round to 'have a word.'
