The follow-up to Remedy's Xbox 360-exclusive Stephen-King-a-Like tale of author Alan Wake (who is lost in a plot) will not be Alan Wake 2 according to the developer's "head of franchise development" Oskari Hakkinen. In sentences more confusing than the "digitally episodic sort-of-TV-show-but-not" Alan Wake itself, Mr Hakkinen tells Eurogamer:
"Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more
Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake instalment will not be
Alan Wake 2. And neither will it be DLC."
So, by not being
Alan Wake 2 or DLC for
Alan Wake 1... it'll be a prequel then. We think that's what he's saying.
He continues, "It's something that'll definitely give more to the
Wake fans out there..." a prequel then.
"...but just as importantly, this instalment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board"... so, a prequel.
One thing Mr H' is sad about, however, is that Remedy hasn't been able to manage the news, with snippets about the new game leaking a little. "It is of course a shame that this news leaked before our official announcements went out which will include the visuals and information to support it," he says.
