Analysts must have lots of fun predicting things. Here's the latest, courtesy of Mike Hickey of Janco Partners - Electronic Arts could be set to annualise the Battlefield franchise in much the same way as Activision has done with Call of Duty. The idea is that releases of core
Battlefield games and
Bad Company spinoffs will occur on alternating years, resulting in a DICE FPS extravaganza for every year of the decade.
Here's what Hickey actually said, in a research note. "We suspect they could release a
Battlefield franchise game annually, switching between Battlefield and
Bad Company versions, similar to how Activision manages their
Call of Duty franchise."
EA, for its part, has said in the past that it would rather focus on quality rather than quantity.
Battlefield 2 was released on Windows platforms in 2005, so we're not sure a
Battlefield 4 would be necessarily two or three years away. Add the publisher's recent revelations in overworking its
Need For Speed studios, and you may have something of an analysis misfire.
Still, anything can happen. What do you think are the chances, readers?
