Dragon Age 2 DRM Drama Unfolds
As if Dragon Age 2 hadn't already had enough controversy what with Metacritic being blitzed with negative scores and people complaining about it being dumbed down, now it's embroiled in DRM dramas.

VG247 has picked up on the fact that "Dragon Age 2’s alleged use of SecuROM technology" is being taken from a debate on the game's forum, where users are "protesting that BioWare and EA failed to inform consumers of the presence of any rights management software present in Dragon Age II, and to debate the distinction between SecuROM and Sony Release Control."

However, this has been stepped up by the fact that BioWare and EA have contacted consumer watchdog Reclaim Your Game to try and clarify matters.

This would appear to have backfired, however, with Reclaim stating:

"With our analysis of the SecuROM / Release Control connection with Dragon Age 2 up for public viewing it’s now a good time to explain to all why we have declined to assist Bioware through this troubling ordeal, in spite of our initial invitations to Bioware.

"Our decision is based upon Fernando Melo’s most recent response as well as EA’s absent responses in relation to Dead Space 2, which is also plagued with the same SecuROM-related issues found in Dragon Age 2.

"That is: EA, Visceral Games and Bioware did not notify Consumers that SecuROM’s Release Control was implemented in Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age 2 BEFORE its general release. And furthermore, EA and Bioware have defended their DRM policy stating that the Release Control implemented in Dragon Age 2 was not SecuROM: A claim that has now been proven otherwise by RYG."

Not such a positive outcome then. Especially when RYG states, "As much as we wanted to help EA and their subsidiaries we felt that any sort of assistance from us could only be given if EA, Bioware and Visceral Games were passionate about fixing the games they themselves created.

"It was that passion which was not seen with Bioware through Fernando Melo and, because of that, as well as with the Dead Space 2 situation, RYG simply declined.

"We left Bioware and EA to sort themselves out."
