Notch, the man behind cult (and commercial) hit Minecraft has told developers at GDC this week not to confuse 'piracy' with 'theft'.“Piracy is not theft", he clarified, "If you steal a car, the original is lost. If you copy a game, there are simply more of them in the world.”
He went onto the counter the argument that a pirated game is a lost sale, as follows:
“There is no such thing as a ‘lost sale’. Is a bad review a lost sale? What about a missed ship date?" he asked the attendant developers.
