The arcade version of Super Street Fighter IV will be coming complete with some brand new characters - namely Yun, Yang, Evil Ryu and Oni. But if you're waiting for that home console release (Super Street Fighter IV Turbo?) to get your fan favourite fix you'll have to look elsewhere, as series producer Yoshinori Ono has just ruled out the possibility of a PS3 or 360 release of Arcade Edition.Speaking with Japanese tome Weekly Famitsu, Ono-san revealed that the reason console users will never see an
Arcade Edition release for the home is because the characters are purposefully unbalanced. The developer said that while
Super Street Fighter IV was developed with extremely good balance, the
Arcade Edition has some characters that might be seen in some circles as 'utterly cheap.'
Why would Capcom do this? The SPOnG reasoning is to ensure players keep pumping coins into the arcade machine out of sheer frustration. Ono-san believes that having overly-strong characters helps to build community and competitive spirit. Apparently.
Really, this still doesn't explain why the developer can't just whack the four new characters in an upcoming DLC pack - but it's good to know that Capcom isn't prepared to try its luck with a second home console revision of a fighting game, no matter how popular. What with the recession and all. There'd be riots in the streets.
