It seems that Sony's latest firmware update for the PlayStation 3 (v3.56) has done more than add new security measures - it's also helped Activision swing the mighty ban hammer on accused modders and hackers on Call of Duty: Black Ops.Suspected cheaters have been slapped with a permanent console server ban, with attempts to connect resulting in an error message. Naturally, this has produced an army of affected users on the official
Call of Duty forums
pleading innocence. Other players are rather
nonplussed with such a response.
Although
Call of Duty is undoubtedly the most high-profile instance of this server ban occurrence, it's likely that other publishers will take the opportunity to do the same thing - modders, watch yourselves.
