Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy XIII-2, a direct sequel of 2010's blockbuster JRPG. Motomu Toriyama and Yoshinori Kitase will once more take on the roles of director and producer respectively.Revealed at the publisher's 1st Production Dept. Premier event, Toriyama said to a crowd of adoring Japanese fans that the aim of this sequel is to answer the opinions the team received about
Final Fantasy XIII. He added that fans have been asking for a direct sequel and for a new adventure starring Lightning.
The game is in development for both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and is heading for a 2011 release. It could very well launch before Tetsuya Nomura's own franchise spin-off
Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Wouldn't that be a scary thought?
