Licensing gone mad as EA signs Hollywood
Electronic Arts has announced that it has signed several Hollywood stars to feature in its upcoming GameCube and Xbox snowboarding title SSX Tricky.

In a completely bizarre move, EA has acquired the rights to use likenesses of Lucy Liu, Oliver Platt, David Arquette, Macy Gray, Billy Zane, Patricia Velazquez, Jim Rose and Bif Naked. If you haven’t heard of one or two of these people don’t worry. We are assured that they are big names in the US.

“We are excited we secured such a tremendous cast of talent to work on SSX Tricky," said executive producer Steven Rechtschaffner. "We believe these personalities, each with their own attitude and style, will make the riders more compelling and the story of SSX Tricky deeper, bringing players back for a unique gaming experience every time."

The likeness and voice talents of the above named will be used throughout the game in dialogue bites, before, during and after races.

The strangest thing about this whole affair is contained within a bonus section on the SSX Tricky DVD. Electronic Arts has decided to tape all the recording sessions to be used in a very special behind the scenes making-of video.

All well and good, but surely EA’s main focus should be on delivering a quality game for two upcoming platforms?
