Don't feel sad for that lonely BBC iPlayer symbol on your PlayStation 3's XMB any longer - ITV and Channel 4 have announced that they will be bringing their on-demand services to Sony's console this week. The ITV Player and 4oD channels join other streaming services already available on the PS3, including social networking cinema Mubi, LoveFilm in the UK and NetFlix in the US.
Sony's UK marketing manager, Alan Duncan, said that ITV and Channel 4 should hope to get a 10 per cent traffic increase after their shows become available, and that the company will be advertising the new additions directly to PS3 users via email and blogs. A full-blown TV campaign is expected in the new year.
According to ITV and Channel 4 spokespeople, the deal represents an opportunity for them to expand their audiences. It also has something to do with traffic for their services falling recently too, but let's all look to the future, people. Link hands and sing - you can watch Coronation Street blow up as many times as you want to now.
