GameCube DVD hybrid new details
In the run up to the Tokyo Game Show, lucky Japanese technology fans are treated to the CEATEC Expo, a showcase of the latest developments in IT and technology.

At the Matsushita (better known as Panasonic) stand, the company is showing the console formerly known as Mermaid, the Matsushita Nintendo SL-GC10, better known as the GameCube DVD hybrid we first let you in on at this year’s E3.

Well, the news is that the console now has a name. It will be called Q. Great, that really sells it to us…such descriptive prowess displayed by the creative branding department at Matsushita.

The machine was the unplanned spawn of the brief liaison between Nintendo and Matsushita to create the console’s 80mm disc format.

Representatives at the Matsushita booth have gone on record as saying that, at this point in time, a 35’000 yen price tag (around £200) is under review.

The bad news is that Nintendo’s UK office is still telling us that the machine will be released in Japan only. How and why Nintendo and Matsushita cannot see the saleability of their little Q console in the West is beyond us. We will keep you posted in the coming months.
