Looks like the Famitsu rumour was true - Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi is indeed working on a robot shooter titled Binary Domain, and Sega has released a rather nice looking trailer to celebrate the announcement.Much like Platinum Games'
Vanquish before it, Nagoshi states that the aim of
Binary Domain is to provide a shooter that heavily appeals to the Western market, while bringing in Japanese influences.
Seems to work so far - the setting is a 2080s Tokyo, where robots have taken control of the dilapidated city and a war rages with butt-kicking humans. Of course, this is all going on while the upper classes enjoy sweet, clinical futuristic life up in the sky.
Nagoshi told Famitsu that he had the idea for
Binary Domain whilst Yakuza 3 was still in development. Perhaps the spinoff shooter,
Yakuza of the End, went some way to experiment with the gameplay style that we might eventually see in this new project, but the producer remained tight-lipped on any concrete details regarding how it plays.
Watch the trailer below. B.A. Baracus wannabe included. Wake up, fool!
