Kairosoft's iPhone sim Game Dev Story has captured the hearts and minds of game journalists everywhere - so it's of no surprise that the studio is working hard on a sequel. The developer released its iOS game back in October and quickly shot to popularity, much to its surprise. In the App, players assume the role of a manager at a small game development studio. Hiring competent coders, sound engineers, script writers and producers whilst maintaining a healthy budget to release games in a timely fashion is all part of the balancing act.
On the back of the support from Western gamers, Kairosoft expressed an interest in providing English localisations of all of its future games.
Game Dev Story 2 - which will be a port of a 1990-2000s indie PC title, just like the first one was - will take some time to come out, however.
"We will be developing a sequel, but we are not planning on releasing it soon," a spokesperson said. "We are thinking of improving the game by adding elements of networking in the sequel, such as sales score rankings and sending employees to a friend’s company, etc."
We wonder if this is the beginning of some strange meta-
Game Dev Story adventure for Kairosoft. In ten quarters, will it bankrupt itself and bring an absurdly-titled console to market, like you can in the game? Doubtful, but it's fun to dream.
Played
Game Dev Story on your iPhone yet? If not, go and do it - it's a total time sink, and well worth the £2.30-ish asking price.
