Japanese weekly gaming magazine Famitsu has recently posted an interview with the producer of upcoming title Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Ryota Niitsuma, providing plenty of new details on the game.In the interview, Niitsuma explains how
MvC3 got off the ground as Capcom moved towards more action-oriented games at the turn of the millennium and only more recently has decided to give fighting games a chance once again.
MvC3 just happened to be one of those titles under consideration.
He also reiterated that negotiations with Marvel had been ongoing for years and the development and release of the title is not solely a result of the success experienced by
Street Fighter IV.
The producer added that some of the staff from Wii title
Tatsunoko vs Capcom were on hand to help with development duties for
MvC3 together with staff who had previously worked on
Marvel vs Capcom 2 as well as adding some new members to the team courtesy of using Capcom's own MT Framework engine during the title's development.
The transition of 2D sprites into 3D is something that Niitsuma explains was very difficult for the team due to the transition from one dimension to another providing in-game models with a strange balance. He added that
Okami's Amaterasu was the most difficult character so far to realise correctly in
MvC3.
On which Marvel characters would be included in the game, Niistuma explained that Capcom put forward its suggestions to Marvel but the process wasn't as smooth as they had hoped, resulting in negotiations with the comics giant as to who would make the cut and who would have to be left for a possible future iteration. He did add that the meetings between the two companies were quite fun though and that there are still 10 characters to be announced for the game (after the initial roster of 30 has been revealed).
Asked about the online multiplayer aspect of
MvC3, Niitsuma explained that this part of the game has taken quite some time as the developer works on tuning the network elements of the package. On being asked if the game will allow 6 players at once, each controlling an individual character in the match, Niitsuma replied that although this had been under consideration during the planning stages of the game it will not be included in
MvC3 due to networking problems emerging along the way.
So there you have it, straight from the producer's mouth. Do you intend to pick up
MvC3 when it is released next February? Any thoughts, feel free to post them down below.
