This is not turning out to be a good week for the games industry, as LucasArts has confirmed a new wave of layoffs to complement an initial restructuring earlier this year.Whispers from the industry point to around
50 staff members,
working on an unannounced project, being made redundant.
The company has only confirmed that it is making "a minor adjustment in staffing to help us better address the needs of the business." A formal statement added that "we remain committed to our internal studio - and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners - in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans."
It rounds off some troubling times for LucasArts. After having made several job cuts and executive reshuffles earlier in the year, the company also handed over all distribution and publishing rights for
The Old Republic to Electronic Arts.
