The head of Team Ninja, Yosuke Hayashi, recently spoke in an interview regarding the developer's direction with its new projects and how things are shaping up with 3DS development. The interview touches upon the difference between development practises in the West and Japan, changing approaches to development and game production, changes in Team Ninja and creating new instalments to established franchises.
Speaking of the franchise
Dead or Alive, Hayashi was asked how he and his team have found working on the 3DS for the newest instalment in the series, entitled
Dead or Alive Dimensions. Hayashi replied that the portable machine is relatively easy to develop for but he and the team need to figure out how to use 3D well in the game and literally playing around with the feature to figure out how to implement this.
Hayashi also touched upon emerging control devices for the next-gen machines and how they will (or not) affect games development. He explained that when a new device comes into the market, there always appears to be a chorus of voices that say "We don't need it" and that is no different for Kinect. He goes on to mention that people's view of the DS prior to launch was the same and remarks upon where that portable is in the market now. He adds that those detractors should "Wake up already and embrace the change."
Let's hope Hayashi and his colleagues at Team Ninja can bring us a few new changes on the 3DS that are worth embracing.
